4 BAR MECHANISM

A Product Design Homework Assignment

For this assignment, I was given the SolidWorks part files to assemble a 4 bar mechanism. After assembling the mechanism, I had to animate it and generate various graphs pertaining to its motion. All graphs were generated using the data from SolidWorks and Microsoft Excel.

4 Bar Mechanism: About

DATA GRAPHS

X-VELOCITY GRAPH

The x-velocity of the extension's midpoint appears to follow a sinusoidal pattern throughout the entire motion.

Y-VELOCITY GRAPH

The y-velocity also appears to follow an oscillatory pattern, but the down-slopes all have a kink in the graph.

MOTOR TORQUE

Maximum Torque: 706.84 Nmm

Crank Angle at Max: 288 degrees

Negative torque values indicate a flip in the angular acceleration. This means that the object is slowing down in the motion.

BEARING VERTICAL FORCE GRAPHS

Maximum Vertical Force: 12.79 N (magnitude)

NEW BEARING VERTICAL FORCE GRAPH

Maximum Vertical Force: 10.82 N
